SJÖDIN

Anna Sjödin denied chance to appeal

Anna Sjödin, chairwoman of the Social Democratic Party's youth wing SSU, will not be granted leave to appeal her conviction for her involvement in an infamous Stockholm bar brawl. The Court of Appeal has decided not to sanction appeals for anybody involved in the case.

In October Anna Sjödin was fined by Stockholm district court for assaulting and verbally abusing a bouncer. She was also ordered to pay the bouncer, Babak Jamei, 5,500 kronor in compensation.

At the time of Sjödin’s conviction several local SSU groups demanded Sjödin’s resignation. But the central organisation indicated that it would wait for the results of an appeal.

Commenting after the verdict, SSU Secretary Mattias Vepsä said that “our sights are set on the next congress in August of next year.”
