Cash vehicle robbed at gunpoint in Stockholm

Four armed men robbed a secure cash transport vehicle in Stockholm on Friday morning. The men, carrying automatic weapons, detonated an explosive charge in the vehicle on a road in Alby, a suburb to the south of the city centre, at 11am.

The robbery was carried out opposite a Bauhaus home improvement store, from which a large number of people witnessed the raid. Between 20 and 30 calls were made to the emergency services, in which witnesses described the robbers fleeing the scene in two cars. It was not immediately clear whether they had made away with any valuables.

“We are currently working on interviewing witnesses. We know in which direction the robbers fled, and around 20 police patrols are trying to track them down,” said police spokesman Björn Engström.

None of the security staff were injured in the raid, despite the explosion. Around seven minutes after the alarm was raised, police found another burning car nearby.

“We do not know if this was a getaway car. They could have set light to another car to distract attention,” said Engström.

A truck was also found burning nearby shortly after the robbery.
