A favourite expat urban myth about Germany has finally been confirmed – if only partially. A police officer stopped a 37-year-old man in the small town of Finnentrop on Sunday evening when he dared to cross a pedestrian crossing with the red man lit.
After a routine warning, the officer had the man’s identification checked against the central database, whereupon it emerged that the man was wanted for drugs-related crimes, and had a ten-month prison sentence still to serve.
According to a police statement, the man spent Sunday night in the police station before being taken to jail to complete his sentence.
