“The mixture of fog and sunshine will accompany us until mid-week,” meteorologist Dorothea Paetzold said in a statement, adding that temperatures would remain quite cool.
On Thursday afternoon cloud cover will roll in, bringing rain to the north and the east – and possible snow in higher altitudes by Friday. Low-lying mountains in the Harz region, as well as the Fichtelgebirge in Bavaria and Saxony’s Erzgebirge, or Ore Mountains, are all likely to see snow fly, Paetzold said.
Until then, Tuesday and Wednesday will be mostly pleasant, with temperatures between 10 and 16 degrees Celsius. Nights will be chilly with frost likely in some areas.
But after the rain and possible flurries on Friday, conditions are expected to improve, she predicted.
“According to current calculations this precipitation is an episode that will disperse due to a high pressure system arriving the beginning of next week,” Paetzold said.
