The survey, carried out by the Swedish National Railway (SJ) for the third year in a row, showed that the capital and traditional summer hotspots in the west of the country are still where people will flock to in the coming months.
When asked which city they would most like to visit this summer, 31 percent, said they would prefer to go to Stockholm, while 29 percent plumped for Gothenburg.
The west coast was even more popular among those looking to spend their vacation in a resort. 15 per cent said they would travel there, slightly ahead of Gotland in second place.
The same survey last year again saw Stockholm chosen as the most popular destination for a city break, while Liseberg in Gothenburg, the largest amusement park in Scandinavia was rated the most popular attraction.
The other huge attraction for the family each year is the Kolmården safari park.
The survey is carried out each year by the railways organization together with its customer magazine Kupé and is used to track travelling trends among Swedes.
During the winter, the most popular destinations for Swedes are ski rsorts Åre and Sälen.
