Two French climbers were caught by a rockfall while climbing in the Trient glacier early Sunday and fell 50 metres, police in the canton of Valais said.
One was killed after being struck on the head and died at the scene. The other suffered an ankle injury and was taken by helicopter to hospital, the statement added.
A little later on Sunday morning, a 23-year-old Swiss climber died when he fell 400 metres as he and a colleague were coming down Stecknadeljoch, in the same district.
