The Swedes took the lead just 11 minutes into the game when Lotta Schelin threaded a pass through to Therese Sjögran, who made no mistake finishing.
Sjögran turned provider for the second soon after with a cross for Lisa Dahlkvist to score her third goal of the competition with a firm header.
By now Sweden were totally dominating the game, but the Australians managed to give themselves a chance by reducing the deficit before half time with the best goal of the game, a fine finish from Ellyse Perry.
The Swedes used the half time break to refocus and it was not long before their pressure paid dividends with a third goal. Lotta Schelin took full advantage of a mistake in the Australian defence to grab her side’s third goal and send them cruising through to the semi final.
So far the Sweden team has performed above expectations in Germany and hopes will be high of reaching the final for the first time since 2003.
However Sweden will first have to overcome a Japanese side that has surprised many already in this competition. Should they be successful they have a chance to win the World Cup for the first time ever.
