“France condemns with the most extreme firmness the continued repression by the Syrian authorities, which is getting worse,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Human rights organisations said scores of civilians were killed on Sunday as the Syrian military attacked protestors in the city of Hama.
“Syrian political, military and security leaders must know, now more than ever, that they will have to answer for their deeds,” the French statement added.
“The continuing of the repression and atrocities against civilians is particularly unacceptable on the eve of the month of Ramadan and can only leader to more instability and violence across the country.”
