Angry fans stormed Hertha’s training center Sunday morning, the paper reported, and confronted the team. To calm down the increasingly aggressive situation, Hertha management and team captain Andre Mijatovic held a discussion in an historical room in the Olympic Park stadium.
The defeat against Stuttgart appeared to be the last straw. Skibbe could not explain why the capital city’s team was unable to score even a single goal. “In the first half we had a catastrophic team performance,” he said. “It was so bad it’s hard to find words for it.”
Skibbe had only taken over as top trainer a month ago, after the team fired Markus Babbel.
Hertha had been in ninth place earlier in the season, but has sunk to 15th, just one place above the three worst teams in the first Bundesliga. These teams run the risk being bumped down to the second league.
The paper said the team will probably opt for an interim trainer before naming a new one.
