According to a report in the Aftonbladet daily the 15-year-old was in her room with a teammate busy getting ready to meet up with the rest of her team when three boys entered the room.
“They locked the door and asked if we wanted to have sex. We said no and told them to go,” one of the girls told Aftonbladet.
The girl told how two of the boys, members of another team staying in the same residence, held her down while the third molested her friend.
The teenager confirmed that they had reported the incident to the police and their hosts on Wednesday and were promised that the other team would be moved.
However the team, and the suspected players, remained in the same residence for the remainder of the tournament which ended on Saturday.
“We have stationed guards and increased surveillance of the residence where the team lives. From the reports that I have received it has been calmer after that,” said Gothia Cup press spokesperson Pär Karlsson to the newspaper.
The girls reported however how the boys have been able to roam freely during the ensuing days and that they have felt under scrutiny.
Police have now classified the suspected offence as attempted rape and police have confirmed that one person has been informed of the allegations. None of the three boys have as yet been taken into custody.
All of the suspects are reported to be teenagers.
