A woman travelling on the plane is reported to have suffered only minor injuries.
Police received a call at around 7.30am on Saturday morning that a plane had crashed on lake Lill-blåbergsträsket west of Skellefteå in Västerbotten.
“A couple of elk hunters heard a strange sound, a metallic noise, then it went quiet. They went down to the lake and found the crashed plane,” said Christer Haglund at the Swedish Maritime Administration’s air sea rescue centre.
The man and women, both reported to be in their thirties are reported to have been the only people in the plane at the time of the crash.
The aircraft, a light sea plane, is reported to have landed upside down in the lake, but has been turned.
The woman managed to get out of the plane by herself and is reported to have survived without any significant injuries.
The accident is reported to have happened shortly after take off.
The emergency services are reported to be working hard to minimise the fuel emissions into the lake.
Due to the type of plane, the crash will be investigated by the police and not the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority.
