Neighbours heard a loud bang after the amateur bomb exploded on the balcony of the teenager's home, Gazzetta del Mezziogiorno reported.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the incident.

The boy, who procured the ingredients for the bomb after finding instructions on a website, is thought to have been unaware of the potential tragedy it might have caused and believed he wasn’t committing a crime because the information and ingredients were so readily available, the newspaper said.

When a policeman arrived at the scene, he found a small crowd gathered on the street outside the boy’s home, while the teenager was tucked away in a street corner.

Before the officer could ask him about the bang, the confessed to being the culprit.

The police later found 700 grams of bomb-making ingredients, including a small amount of nitroglycerin, in his home.
