The security agent for the President of Catalonia Artur Mas was busted after a raid on his home in the town of Móra d'Ebre.

Police caught wind of the illegal activity after a tip-off, but were not aware that the house's owner was a member of the president's security detail.

They found around 100 plants on the man's premises, Catalan daily El Periódico reported on Tuesday.

The bodyguard was initially taken into custody and has been suspended from duty without pay, the daily reported. His girlfriend was also arrested.

The raid was carried out on September 17th but details have only just been made public.

Catalonia Police said that while the agent was part of Mas' security team, he was a member of the so-called "second crown" and not part of the inner circle.

The agent has been released while investigations continue.
