The two dignitaries have rescheduled some of their commitments for this Tuesday to fit in a flash visit to South Africa.
The pair will fly to Johannesburg on Monday night and fly back to Spain on Tuesday night after the former South African leader’s mass funeral celebration at Soweto's Soccer City stadium.
Spain's Prime Minister was meant to be attending a Spain-Italy summit in Rome but both he and Italian President Giorgio Napolitano have agreed to postpone the meeting to be able to fly to South Africa.
Prince Felipe and Mariano Rajoy will fly together to Johannesburg's Oliver Tambo Airport in a Spanish Air Force plane which recently underwent repairs after the aircraft’s technical problems forced the Spanish royal to cancel his visit to Brazil.
