This week was marked by more strikes, as Lufthansa pilots shut down flights for three days to protest changes to their retirement system.

Police used pepper spray and took several people into custody during a demonstration against an eviction in Berlin's Neukölln on Friday.

Also on Friday, German journalist Anja Niedringhaus was killed by an Afghan police officer. Niedringhaus had covered wars in Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq, for which she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.

On Wednesday, Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen paid a visit to a hospital in Bavaria for German soldiers injured during overseas operations.

Also featured are Manchester United and Bayern Munich who faced off in the quarter finals of the Champions League on Tuesday. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with the teams set to meet again in Munich this Wednesday.
