Elisabetta Martini, 62, and her 36-year-old son Marco Coggiola had twice tried to kill the woman by lacing her coffee and water with rat poison during a stay at Turin’s Pinerolo hospital, Il Secolo XIX reported.
They then tried to feed her a dessert mousse laced with the poison, but were caught on cameras installed by police in the hospital room.
Having already started an investigation on the pair after the first two murder attempts, the police waited in another room and arrested them as soon as they tried to give the grandmother food, the newspaper said.
The pair confessed and face charges of attempted murder.
