Despite an extensive search by police, no sign could be found of the duckling's mother, or its siblings, making it difficult to reunite it with its family.
A quick-thinking police woman, Inspector Vanessa Kandolf, brought the duck into the station, and gave it some food and water.
The duckling has been passed on to a Graz animal welfare organization that specializes in small wild animals in distress, known as „Kleine Wildtiere in großer Not“.
