The 30-year-old woman was the only Swiss passenger on the doomed plane.
Her name was on a partial list of passengers published by websites in Burkino Faso and picked up by Swiss media on Friday.
Flight AH5017 took off from the capital of Burkino Faso, Ougadougou, in the early hours of Thursday en route to Algiers before disappearing from radar screens.
The wreckage was found on Friday by a French military drone in the Gossi area of Mali near the border with Burkino Faso.
There were no survivors among the 118 on board, 51 of whom were French.
The Swiss victim had worked for an NGO dealing with human rights and was a communication officer for a Latin American film festival in Geneva.
According to her biography on the festival’s website she studied Spanish and Religious History at the University of Lausanne and at the Ethnology Institute in Neuchâtel.
Her Twitter profile describes her as “fascinated by the world of culture and cultures of the world.”
Passengers also included five Canadians, four Germans and two from Luxembourg.
