The body of Mimiko Matsumura was found at around 8.00pm on Sunday evening in the Rimigliano national park on the Tuscan coast, La Nazione reported.
The 40-year-old Japanese woman, a resident in Germany, is thought to have drowned.
The discovery of her body ends a large-scale search operation involving the coast guard, fire brigade and police, which began on Saturday afternoon when her husband raised the alarm.
Matsumura became the fifth person to die off Italy’s shore over the weekend, after a child and three adults also lost their lives.
A four-year-old girl drowned in San Teodoro, north of Marsala in Sicily, after she wandered away from her parents and into the water. The child’s death came just days after an eight-year-old girl died at the beach in Nettuno, Lazio, La Stampa reported.
A 45-year-old Italian woman drowned on Sunday afternoon in Rimini, while holidaying with friends.
A day earlier two Sri Lankan brothers, aged 38 and 44, lost their lives in Capaci, Sicily. The men drowned after the rubber dinghy they were in with a third person capsized in rough seas, La Stampa said.
