Police tried to pull over the 44-year-old man from Lüdinghausen neart Nottuln, just outside of Münster, after they spotted him driving erratically early Sunday morning, local police reported.
After flashing their lights at the vehicle, the driver sped off, ignoring traffic signals and often crossing into the oncoming traffic lane as he led police closer to the Dutch border.
After more than 40 kilometres, police in Südlohn were able to stop the car, though the driver continued his flight by foot, though police quickly apprehended him.
No one was injured and only one police car suffered damage when the driver, who does not possess a drivers license, ran his car into it.
All in all, the driver racked up €10,000 in damages.
