Sometime between Sunday night and early Monday morning four rocks were thrown through the stained-glass window on the East wall of Stavanger Cathedral.
Police received an emergency call from a witness at around 1.50am.
Police chief Kurt Løklingholm said: “We arrived at the scene and spoke to a man who was pointed out by witnesses, but he claimed he was not behind the crime. But the case is not closed from our side.”
Inside the church, police found several rocks which had made several holes in the glasswork. It is not the first time the window has been vandalized. The last time was in 2012.
The damaged glasswork was made by Norwegian writer, painter and glass designer Victor Sparre in 1957.
