Giuseppe Zerbetto, 87, was with his son and other family members when he stumbled on a step leading to the grave in San Biagio di Callalta cemetery, Il Gazzettino reported.
He died instantly after hitting his head on a marble slab in front of the grave, the newspaper said.
In October 2013, a 75-year-old pensioner died after falling into her husband's tomb in Pompeii, southern Italy.
Antonietta Testa was cleaning the tomb when the marble broke and she fell four metres to the bottom.
