The accident happened while the 60-year-old man was skiing between Obereggen and Pampeago, in Italy’s Trentino-Alto Adige region, Il Messaggero said.
He reportedly took off his skis and went off-piste to take a photograph of himself, but is believed to have slipped and fallen 200 metres to his death.
The German man was not reported missing until late afternoon on Wednesday, when he did not arrive to pick his children up from their ski school.
The tourist’s death came on the same day at least three people were killed in an avalanche in the French Alps.
They were part of a group skiing in the Alpine Ecrins National Park when they were swept away. One Austrian and six Germans were saved, while an Italian and two Austrians lost their lives.
