The ice art spotted in the Rudolf-Wilde-Park in the Schöneberg district – where Bowie used to live with Iggy Pop at Hauptstraße 155 – shows a black star and the words “Let's Dance”.

The star is a reference to Bowie's last album, Blackstar, released just four days before his death – which many believe contains references to the battle with cancer he kept private over the preceding 18 months.

Let's Dance is a reference to one of his catchiest tunes, which appeared on the eponymous album in 1983.
Bowie is perhaps the most famous Anglophone expat ever to make Berlin his adopted home, and was mourned deeply by Berliners after his death on January 11th.
“Berliners are mourning a musical genius and one of their most famous fellow citizens,” Berlin mayor Michael Müller wrote at the time.
Bowie and Iggy Pop's former home at Hauptstraße 155 has remained besieged with floral tributes ever since the singer's passing.
