The man was arrested prior to the weekend on rape charges that were filed on Wednesday of last week, Bergensavisen reported on Monday.
The newspaper reported that the man was a current employee at the instiution in question and has also worked at several other Bergen area daycare institutions. Sources told Bergensavisen that the man was very well-liked.
The man is also charged for possession of child pornography. Police confiscated his computer following his arrest and discovered indecent images of children that have been downloaded over a span of years.
The man did not appear at Monday’s remand hearing in Bergen District Court and his attorney did not say much to the press.
“The only thing I can say is that my client has agreed to the request to hold him in custody,” Beate Hamre told Bergensavisen.
Police attorney Eli Valheim declined to give details on the case, saying that the hearing was held behind closed doors.
Under Norwegian law, the rape of a child under the age of 14 can result in a 21-year prison sentence.
