According to MeteoSuisse an anticyclone in the North Sea brought the famous bise wind to Switzerland, particularly to the Jura and northern Vaud, around Yverdon-les-Bains and Neuchâtel.
Gusts of 74km/hr were recorded in Neuchâtel, 80.3km/hr in Chaumont and 109km/hr at La Dole in the Jura mountains.
The strong winds meant temperatures felt a lot colder than they actually were.
While the temperature in Neuchâtel on Monday morning was around 3.7 degrees, it actually felt more like -4 degrees, said MeteoSuisse.
Speaking to news agencies, Sharon Satz, a meterologist with MeteoNews, said: “Even if temperatures varied between zero and two degrees, maybe five in some regions, the bise gave us the impression that it was below zero”.
While the bise is expected to be less strong on Tuesday, low temperatures are set to continue this week.
