Today's Word of the Day in Spanish is definitely a word that you will use if you are in Madrid to talk about pollution.
Boina means a kind of hat typical in Spain similar to a beret but nowadays we also use the word to describe a layer of pollution in the sky that forms in big cities, which doesn't allow us to see the sun, clouds or stars. Let's see it used in some example sentences.
When referring to a hat:
– Mi abuelo sale en todas las fotos con boina.
My grandfather appears in every picture with a beret.
When describing the pollution above the sky:
– La boina de contaminación que tapa el cielo de Madrid es perjudicial.
The thick layer of pollution in Madrid is really harmful.
Pronunciation: boy-nah
