“Violent riots motivated by xenophobia have been taking place in several British cities since the beginning of August. It is strongly advised to avoid large gatherings of people”, the Foreign Ministry writes on its website.
The warning is also published on the website of the Austrian embassy in London.
Following the knife attack in Southport, UK, which resulted in the deaths of three young girls, a wave of racially motivated violence has swept across the country, leading to over 400 arrests. This unrest has been amplified by inflammatory content circulating online.
Despite these events, the Austrian government has not issued any advisories against travel to the UK. However, Austrian citizens currently in the UK or planning to travel there are encouraged to register with the foreign ministry. This voluntary registration enables the ministry to contact you in case of an emergency or crisis.
There are two separate registration lists: one for Austrians currently living abroad and another for those planning future travels. By registering, you ensure that the Austrian authorities can provide timely support and information if needed.
