“We will protest with actions against the store until it must close again,” Silvio Kurz, speaker for the Stop Thor Steinar initiative, told the Tagesspiegel. The new location of the store is not yet public, but those familiar with the neo-Nazi scene say the store will be located in the centre of Berlin. Left-wing groups plan to protest the store.
Local politicians are also joining the resistance to Thor Steinar. SPD member Tom Schreiber is urging the new landlord to cancel the contract, explaining that they probably do not fully comprehend the brand’s neo-Nazi appeal. The Green Party is also trying to rid Berlin of the store. “Contact between the right-wing scene and young people is built up through such clothing,” Green Party member Clara Hermann told the Tagesspiegel.
Three years ago, the brand’s rune logo was banned from Brandenburg, Berlin and the Czech Republic because of its similarity to National Socialist symbols. Thor Steinar has met protests and cancellations of rent contracts elsewhere in Germany, mostly in the former East, where their largest clientele base is. It is forbidden to wear Thor Steinar in many Berlin clubs as well as at the stadium
