The court in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate ruled on the temporary suspension of their custody rights after they failed to prevent their 21-year-old son from attacking their 17-year-old daughter, a court spokesperson said on Thursday.
After repeated conflicts with her family, the girl had already been taken into youth services care. On the day of the attack she went to her parent’s home with her guardian to have them sign a student loan form. Her brother apparently threatened to kill her on the street after the visit, throwing a cobblestone at her head and kicking her repeatedly in the face after she fell.
The girl’s mother and younger brother were apparently in a position to prevent the attack.
The girl remains in critical condition after treatment in a local intensive care unit, the head public prosecutor said, adding that her brother is under investigation for manslaughter and assault.
