Customers sent more than 85 million text messages to friends and loved ones – a record high in one day, the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary reported on Monday.
The company decided to compensate their users for last Tuesday’s widespread network outage, which affected many of their 39 million customers between 4 and 8 pm, disrupting wireless, SMS, and data services service.
T-Mobile, the country’s largest mobile phone network provider, said the problem likely occurred due to possible software errors with their Home Location Register (HLR) servers, which they called the “brain” of the mobile telephone network.
