Some 2.56 million viewers tuned in to watch the first round of the semi-finals on channel ProSieben, where the 19-year-old winner of last years’ Eurovision Song Contest performed six potential entries for the 2011 competition, to be held in Düsseldorf in May.
While the catchy track “What happened to me” proved most popular with the public after the two-hour long competition, Lena said she was also pleased that the electropop song “Taken by a Stranger” was well received, both by the TV audience and those in the studio in Cologne.
It shows a “positive picture of Germany,” where the public is “open to new things,” she said after the broadcast, called Unser Song für Deutschland, or “Our Song for Germany.”
“I feel this proves that the public have a very youthful, cool taste,” said veteran music producer and presenter Stefan Raab.
Raab, who has composed and produced many previous German Eurovision entries, and also acted as Lena’s musical mentor ahead of the last contest, whittled down the twelve selected tracks from over 100 potential entries, with the help of Lena herself.
Each of the tracks performed in the semi-finals are included on Lena’s new album, “Good News,” to be released on February 8.
The second part of the song selection featuring six more songs from Lena – not to mention another six costume changes – will be broadcast on ARD February 7.
The winning song will be selected on February 18.
