The three men robbed the vehicle outside a shopping centre in Sollentuna, a suburb in Stockholm’s north, just after 8am on Monday. They escaped immediately afterwards in a car.
Police officers later found an abandoned vehicle thought to be the getaway car.
“They were masked and armed with pistol-like objects. We know from experience that people want to get rid of cars used in robberies as soon as possible,” Ulf Lindgren of the Stockholm police told the Aftonbladet newspaper.
One witness told the paper that they heard a shot go off at a nearby petrol station in Norrviken, although police did not confirm the claim.
According to the official police website, one bag was missing from the vehicle, which was retrieved early on Monday afternoon when three men were arrested.
Police reported no injuries from the scene. An investigation into aggravated theft has been launched by police.
