The western French department of Finistère, which recently experienced severe flooding, has been placed on red flood alert – the highest flood warning – due to the bad weather and rising tides, the weather service said.
The flood risk in the department comes from the Morlaix river in the north of the department.
Four other departments on the country's Atlantic coast, including Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques have been placed on orange food alert.
Eleven coastal departments, including Manche, Ile-et-Vilaine, Côtes-d’Amor, Finistère, Morbihan, Loire-Atlantique, Vendée, Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantique were placed on orange flooding risk from the sea.
This latest flood warning comes a week after parts of the French Riviera were hit by "historic floods" that left at least two people dead.
And earlier this month parts of the western region of Brittany were submerged under flood waters.
