The five shortlisted designs include offerings by leading Norwegian firms Helen & Hard, Snøhetta and Space Group (who have teamed up with Foster + Partners), with Dutch architects OMA and Sweden's Wingårdhs also in the running.
"It will be an inspiring, future-oriented and functional building offering a good working environment for 3,500 people. At the same time we must ensure that the area's infrastructure is properly considered," said Kåre Thomsen, who is responsible for Statoil's office buildings.
The competition was announced in September and the winner will be announced in April/May.
Statoil isn't saying which project belongs to which firm, but the architecture buffs who read Architecture Daily have already been making their guesses. Is number three Foster + Partners, or perhaps number four.
