A riot squad patrolling the area was alerted to the car when a member of the public reported it as suspicious.
Upon searching the car, abandoned by its driver, the squad found packets of white power, later confirmed to be heroin, on the back seat.
The area's police chief, Jean-Francois Cordet, said the haul was the result of “daily patrolling of the neighbourhood” put in place since August’s violent riots, in which 16 officers were injured.
Cordet claimed the crime rate in general had decreased since September this year, with the number of burnt out cars and bins at an annual low.
“We have been able to arrest quite a few people and as a consequence make the area more secure, bit by bit,” said Cordet.
