Logs kept by the Armed Forces of website traffic revealed that users visited porn sites nearly every day, according to a news report by Sveriges Television (SVT), which reviewed the logs personally.
“This is unacceptable, of course,” Per-Olof Stålesjö, human resources director of the armed forces, told news agency TT on Friday.
Stålesjö did not realise the extent of the porn surfing until SVT showed him the results. However, the Armed Forces has acted several times after staff were caught visiting porn sites.
“Every time it comes up, it is very unfortunate. It is a failure not to get these people to understand the importance of not behaving that way,” he said.
If an employee is caught surfing porn, the first course of action is to have a discussion with him or her.
“After that, there can be a talk about several disciplinary actions. In the end, we would talk about resignation,” said Stålesjö.
He declined to reveal exactly how many porn surfers have been discovered, but revealed that more than 10 staff have in recent years continued to surf porn even after receiving a first warning.
However, Stålesjö does not believe that more barriers are required in the system.
“It does not solve the problem. It is about the conduct of the individual. We must solve the problem by working with our values,” he said.
In addition, it was also not possible to identify which regiments or military units are surfing porn since all internet traffic passes through Stockholm and Örebro.
