In the first week of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Germany managed to win six medals: two gold medals in swimming and equestrian events, two silver medals in canoe slalom and judo, and two bronze medals in swimming and rowing.
That puts Germany in 13th place on the world stage, in terms of gold medals won during these games, as of Friday afternoon. China is current in first place, and just ahead of Germany are New Zealand and Romania.
But the games will continue on until August 11th. So there are plenty more chances for German athletes to go for gold – and amaze audiences in Paris, Germany and around the world along the way.
Here are some Germany team games to watch this weekend.
Friday night (August 2nd):
At 8:15 pm the German men’s hockey team faces off against Britain.
Then at 9 pm the German men’s basketball team takes on France.
It’s sure to be an exciting match, as both teams will be looking to hold onto their initial winning streaks. So far both Germany and France have won against Japan and Brazil.
Meanwhile, at 9:30 pm the German 3×3 women’s basketball team will also be playing against France.
Finally at 10 pm there’s the women’s beach volleyball with two German athletes up against two US players.
The full schedule of Germany team games can be seen on the Olympics website.
As a reminder, Olympics coverage in Germany can be streamed online via ARD or ZDF, and also watched on TV on the same channels as well as Eurosport.

Saturday (August 3rd):
Saturday is a good day for beach and water sports with plenty of sailing rowing, swimming and beach volleyball games to see.
The day starts with two games in which the German team will take on its neighbours to the east. At 8 am the German Judo team faces Austria in an elimination game. Then at 9 am, in a men’s preliminary beach volleyball match Germany is up against Poland.
There are two medal matches in rowing on Saturday. First is the men’s single sculls finals, at 9:42 am, with Oliver Zeidler (the reigning world champion in the event) going for gold. Then at 11 am is the men’s eight final in rowing.
In the early afternoon German sailors hit the seas with women’s dinghy races starting at 2:25 pm, mixed multihull races at 3:45 pm, and mixed dinghy racing at 5:05 pm.
At 7 pm there are two German women’s team sports to choose from: the women’s football team will play against Canada in the quarter-final match, and the women’s handball team will play against Norway.
Finally, at 9:28 pm, German swimmer Isabel Gose has a shot at a medal in the 800m freestyle final. Gose has already claimed the Bronze Medal in the 1500 m freestyle event earlier in the Paris games.
Sunday (August 4th):
Sunday starts with the 25m rapid shooting qualification and then moves onto archery and sailing.
Then at 2 pm the German men’s handball team will play against Slovenia.
But perhaps the game to watch on Sunday is the women’s basketball team taking on the US, which starts at 5:15. This is the first time that the German women’s basketball team has made it to the Olympic games, so many will be watching to see what they’re made of. In a couple of pre-tournament friendly games, Germany beat Nigeria but lost to the US team, which is currently the Gold Metal favourite.
Finally the weekend’s games end for Germany with the men’s hammer throw final at 8:30 pm.
