This week’s winner is Juan Soliven Manantan, who snapped the above picture of the Northern Lights near Falkenberg, south-western Sweden.
The Northern Lights are generated when a stream of charged particles from the sun, called solar wind, collides with atoms of oxygen and nitrogen in the Earth’s atmosphere, creating light green, red, orange or blue light. It fluctuates in strength depending on the level of solar activity.
This year is supposed to be a really good year for the Northern Lights, which are common in northern Sweden but rare in the south.
