With Stureplan square as its nightlife focus, Östermalm is not only the place for new and exclusive shopping, but also many hip nightclubs and bars. Two large companies, Sureplansgruppen and Finest, own many of the clubs found in the Östermalm area, which are guaranteed to attract a clientel of posh and poised party-goers, and are always costly.
One of Stockholm’s most famous nightclubs, Spy Bar, is located at the heart of Stureplan and the usual crowd is a mixture of those working in the media branch and those interested in music. Across the street is the popular Sturecompagniet, which pounds music well into the night and often has entry lineups that stretch the street outside. This particular club offers an assortment of bars and dance floors, each with its own theme and music style.
For a more inviting (yet still exclusive feel) Brasserie Godot on Grev Turegatan is recommended. A popular choice for Stockholmers, their evening menu has a mixture of Swedish cuisine and classic French dishes; its also known for its chic cocktail bar, which has a substantial list of both classic drinks and new inventive creations.
Most Stureplan venues are often crowded and queues are very long, especially on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, so a sensible tip is to arrive early and with no shortage of cash to spend.
