The Earthquake station in Bensberg in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) confirmed that a 1.9 magnitude earthquake was followed by a 1.6 magnitude on the Richter scale earthquake.
"The strength of the earthquake is just over the threshold for people to notice the movement. We do not expect that it damaged any buildings," the press statement by the Geological Service NRW read.
Many residents reported on social media hearing a loud bang and others noticed the movement.
